Mumedi, la embajada del diseño

Mumedi (the Mexican Design Museum) is the embassy of national and international design in Mexico City.

Since 2002, Mumedi positioned itself, inside and outside of Mexico, as a key space for design. Since then, its walls have witnessed the most exciting expressions of talent of leading designers and artists.

This passion for design has resulted in creating and offering more and more. Mumedi is today a space to discover, a shop with products that surprise, a restaurant with delicious food, a hotel with beautifully designed rooms.  With all this in mind, the space needed an identity that would more faithfully reflect the history of the place, as well as its new activities.

The first thing we did was to move away from the acronym MUMEDI and create instead a name: Mumedi. So instead of being just a museum the name now has more meaning for both national and international audiences.

We created a shield, a heraldic shield for Mumedi,. This gives the place the authority of an embassy and it also connects with the colonial architecture and heritage of the building. Within the shield are symbols: the point of a pencil to denote drawing; a cup of coffee; the corner of a bed; pixels to denote the digital world; a glass of wine which is a welcome to the museum.

The Mumedi shield is used throughout the museum as signage in every space to be discovered.
